Closing Remarks
Groundhog Play (the Con) strives to be a welcoming gaming convention. We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body, disability, ethnicity, gender and expression, language, mental illness, nationality or citizenship status, neurotype, physical appearance, race, religion, or sexual orientation. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form.Submission of registration and attendance at the Con constitutes acknowledgement and acceptance to abide by this Code of Conduct in both digital and physical spaces.Anyone who violates or acts in bad faith in relation to this Code of Conduct may be expelled at the discretion of the organizing group. If you have concerns in connection with the Code of Conduct, please approach a member of the Groundhog Play organizing group at the convention Welcome Desk, or via the email address linked above.
We require all attendees act in accordance with the following principles:Care & Consideration
All games run at the Con must use, explain, and support conversation/safety tools. Information about these can be found at https://ttrpgsafetytoolkit.com/. This isn’t to eliminate challenging content, but to make sure that everyone knows the bounds and has given consent. We ask designers to clearly communicate the concept, aim, tone and subject matter of their games. This care doesn’t end at the gaming table, or with formal game tools. It is vital that attendees can offer opinions and discuss issues, but that should be done in a spirit of care and consideration. Think about the intent and act with integrity and love. Be positive and supportive of others, as you would hope they would be of you.Inclusion & Accessibility
Attendees must be supportive and kind. They should think about the impact of their words, the privilege they hold, and the relative position of those they interact with. As a con, we prioritize marginalized people’s safety above privileged people’s comfort and will make all reasonable efforts to be inclusive. The world at large, including many gaming events, are not accessible to others due to a lack of consideration upon widening the scope of access requirements being met. While we acknowledge the con will never be accessible to everyone, we strive to address as many barriers to comfortable attendance as we are able, and to centre issues often marginalised or ignored at other conventions. Some of the ways we are prioritizing access include:· Mask Requirement - Airborne pathogens are prevalent. Convention-wide masking minimizes transmission and supports the health of everyone, including people more vulnerable to worse outcomes. The venue also has extraction ventilation and air filtration will be in place.
· Mobility Access - via venue choice and layout. The doors are wide enough to admit most wheeled and powered mobility aids comfortably, and there will always be a through route around the space to accommodate. There is a large toilet that accommodates disabled access.
· Light and Noise Levels - We have some facility to organize groups and where games are held within the space to accommodate the need for different lighting and/or less distraction in a quieter room. We hope that this will also prove to be neuroaffirming. If there are accommodations that you believe we have not considered, that do not directly conflict with the above, please reach out to us and we will do what we can to accommodate.Human Creativity
Groundhog Play is intended to act as an incubator for human creativity, providing a space where people can hone their ideas. The games offered at the Con will be unfinished, and you will be asked for feedback. Be curious and reflect upon your experience. Please keep in mind that failure and learning from our mistakes are all part of this process. Feedback should be constructive and specific. It saddens us that the proliferation of foundation model AI by big tech companies will result in the loss of work for designers, writers, editors, artists and countless others who put time, effort and expertise into the games we enjoy. As such, we do not welcome any game which has or will use Generative AI to create (in full or part) the concept, design, layout or artwork.
